Do we stock zirconia sanding file belts?

  • For 95% of sanding applications the Cibo Ceramic file belts will significantly outlast any zirconia belts.
  • As the price difference in a file belt is small it is not a cost effective solution for the end user.
  • We therefore choose to stock the right solution rather than offer reduced performance which is received with a zirconium oxide file belt.

Need More Detail on Power File Belt Sizes and Applications?

Yes we do however ten years ago these belts were the best option. But technology has moved on and for a very similar price we recommend using the Cibo ceramic material.

Ceramics will cut quicker, cut cooler and last 2 – 3 times as long.

10 years ago, zirconia (blue belts) used to be the belt of choice for most dynafile applications. Now, with the advent of the new Cibo Ceramics (fast cut, long life and better finish), this is no longer the case. We strongly recommend the ceramic belt options whenever they are available. The Cibo ceramics not only outperform zirconia belts in every way, but they are also the same price!

Ceramic Abrasive Belts
– Best for high aggression; fast cutting, grinding and longest life.

Aluminium Oxide Abrasive Belts
– Finer grits. Used when a high quality finish is required from your abrasive belt.

Surface conditioning material was originally developed by 3M almost 30 years ago.  Because of this the generic term for conditioning belts is a ‘scotchbrite’ belt.   For final finishing applications, surface conditioning / SCM belts leave a beautiful and burr free, satin finish, which makes them particularly suited to refining and final finishing stainless steel and non-ferrous metals.

Please note that surface conditioning belts are thicker than traditional abrasive belts. We recommend a 6mm gap in the throat of the machine to ensure smooth running of the belts.

If you are unsure, then why not try our Find A Solution database. This will take you through a simple to follow question tree, at the end of which there will be a specific product recommendation.

Or follow the link here to our Dynafile 11 abrasive belt page.  The Dynafile powerfile belt page includes specific application guidance on grinding, polishing, sanding and finishing with the Dynafile 11 machine.

All Cibo power file belts are made with kevlar backed frozen tape technology.  Cibo Abrasives have spent many years perfecting the art of power file belt manufacture so we can offer the full range of abrasive powerfile belts starting from 3mm wide.
