For weld prep grinding the first thing you need is a strong backing for your abrasive cloth. Then a premium abrasive grain makes a big difference in terms of speed of cut and belt life. All our recommended grinding belts come with a Y-weight waterproof polyester backing and a premium abrasive grain.
FX87 ceramics are the best option for speed of cut and also for lifetime. They have a top coat of grinding aids to reduce the heat and prevent the belts from clogging. Choose the P36 belts if finish is unimportant. Choose the 60 grit belts for a more refined grain.
