Why do Cibo make 2 drum sander / burnisher machines?
Hand held drum sander machines were first developed around 25 years ago. They were developed with a 19mm keyway shaft on the machine head to allow for inter-changeable wheels and brushes on the machine. This development revolutionised stainless steel brush finishing. However all machines have their limitations and keyway burnishers are no different. Having such a small wheel makes it difficult to blend a consistent satin finish onto a stainless steel panel without leaving bounce / chatter marks on the surface of the metal.
Why do keyway burnisher machines leave chatter marks on stainless?
It all comes down to the footprint of an abrasive sleeve on the metal surface. If you have a 100mm diameter abrasive sleeve on a rubber contact wheel the footprint (contact area with the stainless steel) will be narrow. If you have a 120mm diameter abrasive sleeve on an inflatable tyre then the footprint will be significantly wider.
- narrow footprint = very difficult to create a chatter free finish
- wide footprint = no chatter marks and a better quality finish
This was the solution recognised by Cibo and was the genesis for the Finimaster Pro drum sander.
Finimaster Pro: The premium satin finishing and polishing tool drives all the wheels mops and belts directly off the M14 thread. Wheels and tyres for this machine are 120mm in diameter and the handle is designed to be flexible in operation allowing you to follow curves very easily. Which means you get:
Fast high quality finishing, a wide footprint, no chatter marking, great workpiece visibility on tubes and curved surfaces along with the ability to go right up to the edges.
Finimaster Keyway: The Finimaster keyway uses the more traditional 4″ diameter wheels with a 19mm keyway fixing. We supply it as a standard with an inflatable tyre but a solid rubber belt drive wheel is also available.
Both machines are available on their own or with an extensive range of brushes, finishing and abrasive wheels, as well as grinding and polishing belts available ex-stock.
