Tallow is traditionally used with sanding discs and belts either to prevent the sanding belt from loading up when grinding with soft metals such as aluminium or as a coolant on the abrasive belt.
Note:  All tallow products supplied by Cibo are synthetic and contain no animal by-products.  
Have you considered using Alugrind (SPAG) as as an alternative?-  One of the downsides of tallow is that the grease spreads around the work area making it a very dirty process which also needs removing afterwards.  -  Alugrind removes these problems
