Mirror polishing large panels of flat stainless steel to a high standard is one of the most challenging processes in the metal finishing world.
This process is sauitable for repairing small areas of damage only. Begin this sequence at as fine a grade as is practically possible. In any respect we have assumed a finish which can be effectively refined with a P100 abrasive disc as the start point.
In principle you then need to use the discs in the sequence laid out on the page below ensuring that:
1. When you change to the next grade of disc change the angle of the grinding lines such that they are offset by approximately 30 degrees from the previous sanding lines and
2. All polishing soap is removed fully before the next grade of polish is used (PV/103 Vienna chalk is recommended for this process with a soft cloth).
3. Take your time. Mirror polishing cannot be rushed. Achieving a clean, consistent finish before you move on to the next stage will make it much easier to achieve a high quality final finish.
Caution: Whilst all these products will fit onto a normal fixed speed grinder we do not recommend it. A standard grinder runs at around 11,000rpm. The products and the process are designed to work in the region of 3 – 4,000rpm
If you have not done this process before then we strongly recommend that you buy the Cibo Time Saving Kit (set 5). The kit contains all the product and back up pads you need to get going plus detailed written instructions on the process and a video showing the process in operation.
