Do you need to know how to sand mig welds on aluminium tube to leave a very fine satin finish?
Stock removal is not the issue when grinding aluminium. The bigger issue is excess heat which causes aluminium to melt and distort the surface. Heat can also cause ‘orange peeling’ on the aluminium tube. Ideally we recommend doing this process with a variable speed grinder and / or using the Alugrind spray to reduce the heat and increase abrasive lifetime (you can read more on the Alugrind blog).
Stage 1: Working at low pressure remove the weld with the RCD Medium disc. Ensure to work across the weld to ensure no under-cutting, then leave the sanding lines in the final direction required.
Stage 2: Refine the sanding lines with the SAG unitised disc.
n.b. This process will work on a standard grinder but it will be easier faster and more cost effective using the Finipower Plus variable speed grinder
