All About The Cibo Fillet Weld Grinder

The revolutionary Cibo Fillet Weld Grinder was originally introduced to the market in 1998. The technology has come on a long way since then. But the same basic principles still apply. Using the Cibo FinitEasy fillet weld grinder allows access to corners and fillet welds that just wasn’t possible before. The super thin unitised discs allow for faster and more precise finishing. And the FinitEasy revolution has improved the standard of finish that can be achieved when sanding and polishing fillet welds.

Since 1998 the FinitEasy fillet weld grinder has come a long way whilst competitors have come and gone. The latest generation has higher power, higher torque and a much longer machine life and improved ergonomics.

What Problem Do Fillet Weld Grinders Solve?

Cibo FinitEasy

Traditionally there was no simple solution to finishing fillet welds.

  • Angle grinders struggle to give access to the weld and the head of the grinder gets in the way. This also means that the abrasive disc has to be thrown away after very little use. A very expensive waste of consumables.
  • .Abrasive belt files such as the Dynafile or Beltit give access but it is easy to cause damage by catching the belt on the workpiece. Secondly the weld needs to be removed with a relatively coarse abrasive belt meaning additional finishing processes are needed to restore the finish. These additional sanding stages often make the over all process much slower.
  • Chemical processes can also be used to remove weld discolouration. These are becoming much more problematic due to the waste products produced.

So What Makes the FinitEasy So Special

– Ease of Access

Much work went into developing a narrow and thin grinding head to ensure maximum access, minimum irritation. At only 25mm depth the FinitEasy has the best access of any fillet weld grinder, past or present. This narrow head means that you can sand into a 30 degree angle with ease.

– Designed for Safe Working

In previous versions of the FinitEasy the adjustable guard was fitted to the machine arm with 2 grub screws. We know maintaining a guard is essential to safe working but in practice we saw that many operators removed them. The latest generation of the FinitEasy saw the development of the adjustable guard. Behind the arm is a simple release button which allows the guard to be moved up or down with ease. The guard will adjust through a 90 degrees. This ensures maximum visibility of the workpiece whilst ensuring operator safety.

– Ergonomics Matter

An important innovation to the latest version of the FinitEasy was to see a direct connection between the motor drive and the arm. This improved connection not only increased power and torque but also improved ergonomics and reduced machine noise.

In fact ergonomics has become a central part of FinitEasy design. Cibo noticed that operators offset the arm angle by a few degrees to ensure optimum operator efficiency. So in the latest iteration the FinitEasy is fixed at just the right angle to give maximum operator comfort and ease of use.

Another benefit of creating the direct drive was to reduce the depth of the machine head by 40% which in turn increases access options further.

– Power and Durability

The FinitEasy now uses an even more powerful 1700 watt motor unit ensuring unstoppable power, even at slow speed. This is combined with a multi-V drive belt which provides a built in slip clutch mechanism to prevent disc and machine damage. The slip clutch is engineering to kick in immediately below the maximum machine torque, providing maximum protection to the operator and the machine.

– Stainless Steel Safe

Having all these details but with the risk of contaminating your stainless steel would be crazy. The FinitEasy extension arm is made out of anodised aluminium . And all the flanges supplied with the machine are made from stainless steel. In addition the double sided flanges provide additional flexibility. With built in option to use either 25mm or 22mm bore discs.

What Products Can be Used on the FinitEasy Fillet Weld Grinder?

The most important benefit of using a fillet weld grinder is having the capacity to use the Cibo Unitised fillet weld grinder discs to blend, radius and polish stainless steel tig welds. The Cibo Unitised discs are available in a number of product families from the AFS website

GA Combi Disc
  • TA 10 Unitised. These red discs are made using an engineered abrasive and are the most aggressive of the unitised products available today. Use the TA unitised discs for removing heavier tig welds on stainless steel such as on larger pharmaceutical vessels.
  • MA unitised. MA unitised is available in a range of grades. MA 5, 6, 7 and 8. MA unitised discs use a premium, white aluminium oxide abrasive
  • MA7 and MA8 are the most popular discs for removing stainless tig welds and leaving a fine satin finish
  • MA5 is ideal for removing weld discolouration when blending with a fine satin finish
  • SA Unitised. The SA unitised discs are a grey / light blue colour and use a silicon carbide abrasive grain. The SA unitised discs are finer than the equivalent density MA disc.
  • SA7 unitised discs are a great choice for removing tig welds when the intention is to mirror polish the finished weld.
  • SA5 discs will blend the finish of any of the MA or SA unitised discs ready for mirror polishing
  • GA Combi Unitised. Developed by Cibo. The GA combi disc combines the speed of cut of the MA discs with the fine finishing ability of the SA5 discs to create a product that will sand and finish in one action.

The flexible flanges on the FinitEasy mean that you can also easily mount other innovative Cibo products. The RCD, the SAG and MAG unitised discs or the VAP felt polishing discs fit using the reversible flanges

How to Buy the FinitEasy?

We offer the option of buying the FinitEasy as a kit with a range of discs or as a machine on it’s own. The FinitEasy is also available in both 230v and 110 volt options

If you have not used a fillet weld grinder before and are looing to dress stainless steel fillet welds we recommend buying the machine in one of 2 ways.

  1. Firstly select the machine in a case but with no consumables. Then select the correct Cibo Time Saving Kit for your process. TSK02 will give a satin finish. TSK05 will leave a mirror polished fillet weld.
  2. Firstly select the machine in a case but with no consumables. Then select our GA8 combi unitised disc to satin finish the weld. If you need to mirror polish the welds then in addition select the MHV felt disc along with our PV/102 polishing compound.
